Most of us know that Germany is not offering free corona test for the inbound passengers (incoming passengers). That means the travellers have to bear the test cost.
I’m travelling tomorrow (12.01.2021) from Thiruvananthapuram, India to Frankfurt, Germany. I was exploring the opportunities to do test in India as well as in Frankfurt, Germany. I was aware of the test facilities at Frankfurt airport but I was worried about the long waiting time after a long journey. So I thought that it will be better to do a corona test in India.
Test requirement
The test requirement in Germany is quite different compared to travellers to India. The test should be taken not more than 48 hours before entering Germany.

Corona test center
There are quite a few corona test centres in my city (State: Tamilnadu, India), which are near to my home. So I had many options. There are possibilities for me to get a test from,
- government hospitals
- primary health centres
- private hospitals, etc.
Government hospitals and primary health centers
The government hospitals and also the primary health centres in my state offer free corona test. The process is also not so complex. It’s quite simple and it is also possible to get the test results within 24 hours.
I hope that the government hospitals in the other states in India also offers free corona test. Check it with the local authorities or the hospitals.
Private hospitals
It is also possible to do a corona test also in certain private hospitals. It’s not free of cost and we have to pay for it. The cost differs based on the hospital. It costs a minimum of approximately 3500 rupees.

Corona Test
I had an appointment at 12:30 pm at the primary health centre. This is a convenient time for me because I will reach Germany within 48 hours from the test taken. I got the information that I will get the report by tomorrow (12.01.2021) at 10 am.
I have reached the test center at app. 12 pm and give the below details.
- Name
- Age
- Sex
- Address
- Mobile number
- Travel destination
I got the below-shown test kit. The kit is for the throat swab and nasal swab. That means I took the RT-PCR test, not a rapid test.
Documents
It’s not necessary to submit or show any documents.
Test result
I have received the test result on the next day at 10 am. The process to get the report was very simple. I have entered the given mobile number on the given website and the OTP was sent to the mobile number. After entering the correct OTP, it was possible to download or print the report.

Apart from the above-mentioned corona test facilities, there might be also other test centres in your area. Kindly search on the internet or approached the local authorities to get the necessary information.
