There are many people in Germany getting spam calls for a few months. A computer/robot voice has been used for this call. The call states as below.
This call is from Europol. The purpose of this call is to inform that your German Identity Card number has been used for fradulent activitiy. For more information please press 1.
The call will disconnected automatically if you do not press any number.
What happens when you press the number?
The call will be transferred to a person who speaks with us (not a robot voice). You will be instructed to speak only in English.
They state that the “ID” was used for a crime, which is why immediate cooperation with Europol is mandatory. Otherwise, there will be a risk of “considerable consequences” up to and including imprisonment.
They ask for your personal details like first name, last name, address, etc. The main idea behind this call is to get money.

My experience
I received this spam call in January 2022. They have asked for my personal details. Before I proceeded with providing the information, I asked for their details to make sure that they are not lying. I have received the following details like department, name, and also batch id. I have asked the person to spell the name.
- Federal Police
- Name: Daniel Smith
- Batch Id: 24261
I was not convinced by their answers, especially with the last name, and also I do not want to provide any of my personal details over a call. So, I have denied providing my personal details and said that I will contact my local police station and cut the call.
Answer from police
Once I terminated the call, I called my local police station and explained this call. They said me to ignore the call and not to give any personal details in the future. They have also suggested ignoring that kind of call in the future.
How to react to those calls?
- Do not press any button.
- Do not provide any personal information if you press the button by any mistake or out of curiosity.
- Do not do anything they instructed.
- Inform the police immediately if you have received any personal damages.
