It’s quite common that we use oil for cooking. We might have noticed that the oil had deposited like grease over the chimney. Especially, when we use oil for frying. Therefore proper cleaning is essential to have a good looking kitchen.

Who likes the messed kitchen? I hope that almost every one of us doesn’t like it. Here are some of the tips to clean the surface of the chimney.

Cleaning kitchen chimney filter

It is quite easy to clean the chimney filter with the below methods.

Dishwashing liquid

One of the most economical ways to clean the surface of the chimney is by using the dishwashing liquid which is available at the home. I would suggest you experiment at a small area before proceeding with the entire surface. I have tried this at my home and it was working well for me. Following are the items which you need for cleaning.

  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Hot water
  • A soft cloth or soft sponge
  • Dry cloth or kitchen tissue paper

Steps

  1. Apply the lukewarm water over the surface which you would like to clean and then apply the dishwashing liquid. Or dilute the dishwashing liquid in lukewarm water and then apply it over the surface of the chimney.
  2. Rub it gently with a soft cloth or a soft sponge.
  3. You might have a sticky feeling at first. Wash the cloth in warm water, if necessary.
  4. Rub it gently till you see a clear surface or you don’t feel a sticky surface.
  5. Now wipe the surface with a wet cloth. The surface will be clean.
  6. At last, wipe the surface of the chimney with a dry cloth.

Cleaning the chimney with hot water is one of the efficient processes which will not cause any damages to the chimney. Hot water helps us to clean the greasy surface easily. That is also the reason why we do not need any other additive with the hot water. You just need the following items.

  • Hot water
  • A soft cloth or soft sponge
  • Dry cloth or kitchen tissue paper

Steps

  1. Dip the soft cloth on the hot water and make it wet.
  2. Rub the chimney gently.
  3. You might have a sticky feeling at first. Wash the cloth in warm water, if necessary.
  4. Rub it gently till you see a clear surface or you don’t feel a sticky surface.
  5. Now wipe the surface with a wet cloth. The surface will be clean.
  6. At last, wipe the surface of the chimney with a dry cloth.

Multipurpose cleaning cloth

Multipurpose cleaning cloth is also one of the most effective ways to clean the surface of the chimney. As for the hot water cleaning, there are no further items are needed for the cleaning. You just need the following item.

  • Multipurpose cleaning cloth

Steps

  1. Rub the chimney gently with the all-purpose cleaning cloth.
  2. You might have a sticky feeling at first.
  3. Rub it gently till you see a clear surface or you don’t feel a sticky surface.
  4. Now wipe the surface with a clean multipurpose cleaning cloth. The surface will be clean.

You can buy all-purpose cleaning clothes in almost all the supermarkets. You can also buy it online. You can find it under the German name,

Other methods

There are also other ways to clean with caustic soda and also baking soda. There are also spray and cleaning agents available in the supermarket to clean the chimney but I have never tried because the above mentioned 3 ways had helped me to clean easily and without chemicals.

If you would like to use the spray to clean the chimney, make sure you have moved the kitchen utilities or cover the kitchen utilities before start cleaning. Chimney spray (Kaminreiniger) are available in the supermarket and also online.

How often should we have to clean the chimney?

It is better to clean at least once a month. So that the chimney looks good and also functions properly. Have a look at the user guide or manuals for further information.

My experience

I have combined the above three methods for cleaning the top of the chimney. It was so effective and I could be able to clean the chimney within 15 minutes. Following are the items which were needed.

  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Hot water
  • A soft cloth or soft sponge
  • Multipurpose cleaning cloth
  • Dry cloth or kitchen tissue paper

Steps

  1. I have wiped the surface with hot water and then added dishwashing liquid.
  2. Spread it and wiped it gently for few seconds.
  3. Then wiped the surface with the multipurpose cleaning cloth.
  4. This had removed the sticky surface from the chimney.
  5. Then I had wiped the stains using the multipurpose cleaning cloth.
  6. At last, wiped cleaned the surface using the lukewarm water and then dry cloth. The surface will be clean.

To clean the chimney filter, I have used the hotwater, dishwashing liquid, sponge and a brush.

  • I have dissolved the dishwashing liquid in the hot water.
  • Then place the chimney filter in that water.
  • Let it soak for 10 minutes.
  • I have rinsed the filter and then scrub the filter using a soft sponge.
  • After that, cleaned the filter with the brush. This will remove the stains.
  • Then rinsed well, drained the water and wiped it with the dried cloth.

Note

Before cleaning the chimney and also its filter, have a look at the user manual. Some chimney should be maintained a separate way with other cleaning methods. Due to chemical reactions, there are possibilities to damage the surface. Therefore it is also important to know the chimney material before proceeding with the cleaning.
